Homeschooling Can Happen Anywhere
We’re firm believers that homeschooling can happen anywhere. We love learning on the go! Getting out of the house, engaging in field trips, and bringing lessons to life with real-world experiences are some of our favorite ways to learn and discover as a family.
Learning on the go while traveling to appointments or running errands saves time and stress. Learning on location via field trips and family vacations makes cultivating a family of lifelong learners a lot easier too.
On the hard days, homeschooling on the go can make the journey of homeschooling an only child feel less lonely too. We have been known to homeschool while running errands, at the grocery store, while Christmas shopping, and even at Disney World!
So how do we incorporate learning on the go? Which resources are our favorite for homeschooling anywhere we go? Keep reading to discover our favorite resources and tips for learning on the go.
Resources For Learning On The Go
Any time we need to go to the library or the grocery store, it’s a two-hour round trip. To feel like we aren’t losing a whole day of homeschooling, I’ve adopted lots of great resources for learning on the go. We don’t just use these resources when we’re carschooling; they’re helpful for road trips, field trips, and more!
Discovery Decks
Our newest resource for learning on the go is our Discovery Decks. These decks feature 20 trivia-style questions your kids have probably asked. They’re filled with questions kids are curious about and engaging videos to answer all their burning questions.
Our discovery decks are built around the topics your kids find most interesting like the human body, animals, and outer space. Every card has a question like “Where do boogers come from?” and a QR code that links to an educational video answering the question. It’s the perfect way to engage curious minds while learning on the go!
Podcasts
We love listening to a great podcast while learning on the go! There are children’s podcasts available on all kinds of interesting topics from history to math and even poetry. Check out some of our favorites:
- Storynory
- Wow in the World
- Greeking Out
- Big Life Journal
- Culture Kids
Educational Apps
We don’t shy away from screens in our homeschool, especially when learning on the go. Screens are a great resource for homeschool learning on the go. Some of our favorite educational apps include Teaching Textbooks for math lessons and Night Zookeeper for encouraging creative writing and grammar skills practice.
Emily’s Kindle Fire makes learning with educational apps so much easier. Some of our favorites include:
Learning On The Go Is STILL Learning
The best part about learning on the go is that it’s still learning. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that homeschooling on the go doesn’t count as learning. With the help of these resources, your kids will be learning all kinds of amazing things, even in the car!
Homeschool learning on the go still counts and every little bit adds up. So, don’t be afraid to say yes to a field trip or family vacation because you’re worried about missing educational time. Learning on the go is still learning and it’s real-world learning that’s fun for everyone!
