How to Find Jobs for Homeschool Moms

Are you looking for jobs for homeschool moms that you can do while you are teaching your kids and staying at home? Then you are in the right place.

My name is Ginny and I blog over at Modern Work at Home Mom. Now, in all honesty, I am not a homeschool mom. I have two young children who attend preschool and kindergarten, and I work a full-time job at home.

But, I am a pro at finding work-at-home jobs to bring in extra income. Many times I have found myself in tight financial spaces, where I have needed to pick up extra jobs to just make enough money – even to just have enough money for groceries that week. You know the phrase “burning the midnight oil”? Yep, that describes me many nights as I work until 1 AM, carrying multiple jobs.

Whether you are looking for supplemental part-time income, or a full-time income, I have seen first-hand how it is possible to earn a living at home.

Here’s a full disclaimer. I want this post to really focus on money you can make right now. Because of this, I am not including building a blog or writing blog posts, being an Instagram influencer, or working on social media platforms. These jobs DEFINITELY pay well. But, they take time to ramp up. The jobs below are jobs you can apply for and begin immediately.

(If you are interested in starting a blog or website to earn passive income online, I’d recommend checking out my complete guide here to create a website that earns money.)

Attributes for Success

The first step is to finding the perfect at-home job is to analyze your strengths.

Any good job draws from strengths – and this is so true about an at-home job.

The advantage of working from home is that you can create the job description.

Think about it. If you are looking for a job available in your area with local employers, you are at their whim. They need a assistant? You do what they ask. They need someone who can type fast? You rise the challenge.

But, if you create a job from your home, you can do anything that your heart desires. Do you really love to cook? Do you love to watch children? Perfect. Create a job that uses those skills.

Here are some questions to ask:

  • Do I love to be in my house, or do I like to drive?
  • Do I like to teach?
  • Am I good with money?
  • Do I like working odd hours?
  • Do I like talking on the phone?
  • Am I fast typist?
  • Am I creative?
  • Am I good with websites?
  • Am I a good multi-tasker?
  • Do I like learning new things?

Let’s put together your strengths and find your ideal client!

Let’s say your strengths are a knowledge of trigonometry, you can work odd hours, and you like teaching. It looks like you’d be good at tutoring!

Let’s say your strengths are organizing, social media, and you like chatting with other moms. I’d say that you should begin a social media account to chronicle your organizing tips.

What if your strengths are baking, being creative, and multitasking? I’d recommend looking into offering virtual baking classes.

How to make money as a homeschool mom with limited childcare

If you are looking for an at-home job, you might be wanting some short-term childcare to help you free up some hours to work. But, depending on your budget, this might be hard to come by. I get that! Here are some ideas to find simple childcare.

  • Designate $50 per month for “childcare” and put that towards activity ideas for your kids. Subscribe to activity kids or buy some play equipment on Facebook Marketplace. If you are looking for a great guide to helping your kids play by themselves, check out my article here!
  • My favorite place to find good babysitters & nannies is the NextDoor app for your neighborhood.
  • If you are religious, look at nearby seminaries and theology schools, because they might have listings for their students needing daytime babysitting jobs.
  • Ask neighborhood kids if they want to be a mother’s helper and play with your kids in your house while you work.
  • Look for drop-in nurseries or church childcare services (Mother’s Morning Out) for flexible childcare morning hours.

If you want some real inspiration for working from home WHILE homeschooling, check out this amazing interview with Jen Mackinnon. She’s one of my favorite people online, and I’m always inspired by how well she works and homeschools simultaneously.
